Oh hello! Did you miss me? I apologize for the disappearing act, but last week kicked my butt and was quite possibly the worst week in a very long time. In all seriousness… I am trying not to be dramatic, but I am the only designer working in my office currently as we work toward hiring a new person and the work has piled up. I feel like Sarah Sylvia Cynthia Stout with work, not garbage.

Just when I tried to get my act together I went to grab my camera yesterday morning, which I stupidly left in my freezing cold car… no worky! It got so cold the shutter didn’t work and the lens didn’t want to warm up to de-fog! So, a day late and a dollar short, I am back on track with a little pumpkin-y Halloween spirit! Enjoy!

I had a wicked dream and couldn’t shake it. I think it is due to the endless pile of work I have been building up. All my brain keeps thinking about is the fact that everything is spiraling out of control.

No idea what I was thinking for today’s card. The last couple days have been a bit crazy and the next couple weeks will be even crazier in my work world. So many projects, so little time. They are just projects though and it hopefully will be over soon, hopefully, so “Whatever!”

The theme of last weeks conference was PIVOT. Everyone had there use of the word and explained possible ways to pivot, but my favorite definition of the word was to “extend your reach.” Yes, we think of pivoting as a basketball maneuver sometimes and many think of it as a way to move a new direction, but it is also a way to extend yourself from one location. I love the idea of the saying and the encouragement we were given to find ways to reach out in new ways. The conference was full of thoughts on how to change your way of thinking, finding new solutions and thinking of design in a new light. All great things. However, my one take a way is apply those ideas of change and new directions, but also to never forget who you are and who you want to become. It doesn’t matter where you live… maybe its a island, maybe a big city or on a mountain… learn how to extend your reach from where you want to be!

There is no place like home! I am finally back. I spent last Wednesday – Sunday in hot hot hot Phoenix, Arizona attending the AIGA National Conference: PIVOT. It was fabulous, great fun and including lots of learning. There was lots of socializing in there too. I was so happy I went and I encourage any designer to attend the conference in the future, but I am so glad to be home in mountains.
